An introduction to the materials and methods for the teaching of reading and writing, with emphasis on theories and strategies for teaching reading and writing, diagnosis of reading difficulties, and intervention strategies for struggling readers and writers. Additionally, the course will focus on development, assessment, and instruction for individual or small groups of students in both reading and writing. A variety of approaches to reading and writing instruction, assessment practices, and issues in reading curriculum development will be addressed.
