The mission of the School of Computer Information Systems is to support the mission of the University of Arkansas at Monticello by focusing on the undergraduate educational needs of computer information system students in southeast Arkansas and the region. Both the Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Systems and the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science are designed to prepare students to assume dynamic roles as analysts and designers who will provide the professional insight required for building and safeguarding the information systems of the future.

The goal of the academic programs in Computer Information Systems is to advance the development of those intellectual, personal, and professional attributes that prepare students to shape the complex computer software environment of the future. Graduates are prepared to begin careers as computer programmers, security analysts, system administrators, and database developers, and ultimately to progress to positions in management of information systems. Students augment their Computer Information Systems learning with selected courses in business and communication. Students studying Computer Science supplement their learning with logical reasoning and analytical courses from mathematics. These comprehensive programs allow graduates to confidently advance in the complex business environment of the future.

The School of Computer Information Systems offers Bachelor of Science degrees in Computer Information Systems and in Computer Science. The School of Computer Information Systems also offers an Associates of Science in Computer Information Systems, a Technical Certificate in Computer Information Systems, a Certificate of Proficiency in Computer Information Systems,  an Advanced Certificate in Computer Information Systems and a minor in Computer Information Systems.

The major programs are comprehensive, requiring a minimum of 61 credit hours of course work in Computer Information Systems and approved courses in business, mathematics, and other supportive requirements.
