NURS 50603 - Advanced Pharmacology 3 Credit(s) Prerequisite(s): Completion of all Phase 1 courses or approval by nursing department. This course focuses on developing advanced knowledge of pharmacology and pharmacologic responses. A deeper look will be taken at cultural, social, genetic, and other issues that impact patient decisions regarding pharmacologic treatment. Students will be prepared to address common herbal and alternative therapies utilized by patients. Also included in the course is a discussion of the role of the nurse in the process of approvals for new pharmacologic treatments and in the coordination of medication distribution. Application will be made to disaster and emergency management and the role of the nurse in the multidisciplinary team under these circumstances. Advanced pharmacology experience is incorporated through an online social dimension guiding students through patient-centered prescribing, preparing the students to be ethical and effective prescribers of medication. This course includes 45 hours of virtual practicum.
