The Health Information Technology Technical Certificate is designed to provide individuals with opportunities to learn basic knowledge and skills needed to become a medical assistant, medical office assistant, medical transcriptionist, medical insurance coder, or medical insurance technician with emphasis on the analysis of medical records. Of special note, medical coders must successfully complete the national certification examination of the American Academy of Professional Coders or those of the American Health Information Management Association for proper certification. This certificate is offered in an online format to accommodate working adult learners to meet the growing demand for remote instruction.

*Health Information Technology students may choose to continue their studies and earn an Associate of Applied Science in General Technology degree. There are two options for completion of this degree plan. Details of the requirements for the Associate of Applied Science in General Technology degree are found in the Division of General Studies section of this catalog.
