MUSC 59183 - Jazz Capstone Residency

Prerequisite(s): Successful completion of 21-24 hours in the Master of Jazz program
Corequisite(s): MUTH 50703
Two-week summer session covering performance training, jazz education, and music employment seminar sessions presented by UAM staff, mentors and world-class jazz musicians. Taken in conjunction with MUTH 50703 - Analysis and Music Literature of the 20th and 21st Centuries , there is further reinforcement of jazz improvisation and theory. Includes participation in small combos focusing on the preparation and memorization of standard tunes, jazz classics and contemporary music. Aesthetic issues as well as practical “on the job” considerations are emphasized. Requirements include but are not exclusive to (1) a written comprehensive examination in which the student must demonstrate a satisfactory knowledge of their field of study, (2) a public recital or performance.
